Manual Therapy

Joint and soft-tissue mobilization and manipulation from physiotherapists with post-graduate manual therapy training, also called musculoskeletal or manipulative physiotherapy: easing pain by treating the underlying problem, without drugs.

The approach

What to expect

Physiotherapists who have completed post-graduate manual therapy levels or hold a manual therapy title have additional training in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and complex pain syndromes. Our physiotherapists at Back in Action can help you move well and stay well by:

  • easing pain by treating the underlying problem with joint and soft-tissue manipulation and mobilization, without drugs
  • assessing and correcting movement dysfunction and faulty spinal mechanics, so you move more smoothly and with less pain
  • prescribing a customized exercise program to restore stability and good movement strategies, with the overall goal of preventing the injury from coming back

Manipulative physiotherapists are trained in the assessment of musculoskeletal disorders. Their clinical reasoning is built to reach a diagnosis that is consistent with what the clinical examination finds, and their training covers the management of pain and other disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The profession encourages practitioners to weigh the scientific evidence when they build a management plan.
