Therese Leigh

Therese is a sport physiotherapist with more than 20 years supporting elite skiers, snowboarders and mountain athletes at Olympic, World Cup, national-team and community levels. She holds a Sport Physiotherapy Diploma and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT), with a BSc in Physiotherapy and a Master of Health Administration from the University of British Columbia. Her return-to-play experience is extensive: she led athlete health for Canada Snowboard across five national-team disciplines, was lead physiotherapist for the Canadian National Ski Cross Team, and spent eleven seasons with the Canadian National Alpine Ski Team.

In the clinic she focuses on movement analysis and rehabilitation: complex orthopaedic injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, and exercise programming built around how you actually move and the goal you came in with. She works with physicians and surgeons on complex musculoskeletal injuries and mentors the clinic’s physiotherapists. Therese is the only practitioner at Back in Action who offers neuro-reconditioning, which treats the control centre, the nervous system that organizes movement, and not only the injured area, alongside her musculoskeletal work.

Her training also covers vestibular and concussion management (she set up concussion baseline testing and return-to-sport systems for the ski cross team), Gunn IMS dry needling, and sport first response. Therese co-founded Back in Action in 2010 and is deeply connected to Whistler and the Sea to Sky. She kiteboards, skis, rides, hikes and does yoga.
