IMS is a technique developed by Dr Chan Gunn and is a total system for the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain syndromes (conditions which occur in the musculoskeletal system where there is often no sign of tissue injury or inflammation). The root of these myofascial pain syndromes, which often manifest as shortened, super-sensitive muscle bands, are believed to start with nerve dysfunction.

The treatment utilises acupuncture needles to penetrate deep within the muscle targeting irritated tissue with the goal of releasing shortened muscle bands and desensitising irritated tissue. IMS has a remarkable success rate even for the most chronic conditions.
