## What to expect

Our Physiotherapists at Back in Action use electrotherapy to treat a number of disorders relating to the muscle/tendon unit, ligaments and/or bone. These modalities will be used to compliment the manual and exercise based treatments being prescribed to aid recovery as needed. Electrotherapy modalities may include: **Interferential Therapy **Medium frequency current, which gives the sensation of pins and needles, which is delivered deep within the tissue through electrodes placed on the body for the purpose of pain relief, muscle spasm, inflammation/swelling. **Muscular Stimulation **Medium frequency current used to stimulate and facilitate muscle contraction following immobilisation, surgery or injury. **TENS (Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) **Electrical stimulation, which gives the sensation of pins and needles, is delivered to the superficial tissues through electrodes placed on the body for the purpose of pain relief. **Ultrasound **High frequency sound waves used to treat injuries to muscles, tendons and other soft tissues by stimulating blood circulation and cell activity which can accelerating the healing process, stimulate fibre alignment and break down scar tissue as well as provide pain relief by reducing inflammation.
